1930 HITS ARCHIVE: Puttin’ On The Ritz - Harry Richman
Fliis: 1930 HITS ARCHIVE: Puttin’ On The Ritz - Harry Richman
More recent generations may have heard the 1982 Taco recording or the “Young Frankenstein” film version of this Irving Berlin tune, but it was Harry Richman who first made it famous, both on record and as star of the 1930 film “Puttin’ On The Ritz.” If you’re not familiar with the earlier recordings of the song, you’ll note that Berlin’s original lyrics were all about Harlem. His updated 1946 words shifted the setting to Park Avenue and added the Gary Cooper reference.
